As I wandered the cobblestone streets and hidden alleys yesterday, I flashed back at the wonder and love I had when I made my first serious exposures with a Minolta SRT 101 and its 50mm lens.
Those first “serious” exposures didn’t matter because I mangled the film when loading it on a stainless steel reel. And yet I still could not stop smiling. I had found my calling.
So, here I am in Orvieto. It was a short journey to get here and a long story to explain why… another day perhaps.
I want to encourage all who read this, both of you, to have fun when you are out and about committing art with a camera. The fun equation cannot be understated.
If you can make a photograph that sings, shouts, whispers, encourages and calls you to discover your personal world view and to understand the world where you live, you will have both a soft heart and a full life.
