blueheART STUDIOS PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS

Introduction

A photograph must be seen before it is made – and that is what I teach at my workshops.

There are so many directions to point the lens. It is my purpose as a photographer to make order from chaos. This is accomplished by showing viewers, readers, as they are, what a place feels like, not what it looks like. To do this we must first transform looking to seeing. But how?

My workshops center on the “why.” Why is it we are emotionally moved to point the lens here and not there? Why select the wide lens over the long? We come to an understanding of the “why” through the “how.” It is critical to master the machine so the resulting photographs are not mechanical. Through the mastery of the machine, we embark on the life-long journey of the mastery of the photographic process through camera and image management… two of the central themes throughout all my workshops.
These workshops will provide opportunities for students to share the successes and the failures of image making. I keep no secrets. All workshops provide a new day of intense instruction and long hours of seeing and photographing. We begin our days with early morning light and go long into the evening. You will be extremely exhausted at the conclusion of the workshop. It is my hope these workshops will reunite you to photography with new-found inspiration.

Each workshop will concentrate on a combination of teaching aesthetic considerations while mastering the technical aspects of the medium. We will explore ideas rather than forcing dogma so each student will begin to discover their own voice in the act of image making. Shared information, thoughts, hopes, dreams, perception and reality will be offer in a comfortable and encouraging environment.

The busy daily schedule will include street photography, field trips, informal discussions, instructor demonstrations and presentations with evening critiques. I look forward to making new images with you during my Orvieto, Italia workshops.
