Always Leave Them Wanting More

Hallowed Ground

Oh the places I have been.

Here I stood on hallowed ground. Sure, it is San Francisco de Asis Church at Ranchos de Taos, and holy for that reason. But it is also sacred ground for here stood Paul Strand and Ansel Adams (and thousands of camera owners). And me.

Why did I even bother? It’s been done. And done again. And well done. Rare is it a new gem is found in an abandoned mine. Well, I just had to. And did.

There is so much to see in the familiar for the first time. Like our mates, for instance.

My Uncle Francis had “the relationship” talk with me when I was about 10. He told me that one of God’s greatest gifts to the world is a woman. And like all greatest gifts, all woman should be treated with the utmost respect, admiration and love.

My Aunt Inez had the “sex talk” with me when I was 16. She said, and I quote, “Kenny-boy, you are becoming a handsome young man and many young women will begin, if they haven’t already, to pay a lot of attention to you. So, you have to promise me, with all the women you meet, always leave them wanting more.” As she walked away, I asked, “Wanting more of what?”

My photography, or specifically, how I see, and the exposures I make, I think deep down I want the viewer to want more. Of themselves. Of love. Of the world. Of eternity. Of hope.

I leave you with “San Francisco de Asis,” detail.
